Your first appointment is a consultation and a digital scan — not an impression, not a mould. A precise 3D scan of your teeth is taken with an intraoral scanner and submitted to Invisalign’s ClinCheck software, which maps the movement tooth by tooth.
That plan shows the predicted path from where your teeth are now to where they will finish. You see it before you commit to anything.
Your aligners are then made to that plan. Each set is worn for a set period before moving to the next, and each one moves the teeth a fraction further.

Aligners aren’t right for every case.
Clear aligners handle mild to moderate crowding, spacing and mild bite problems very well. They are less suited to severe rotations, large gaps needing teeth moved a long way, or complex bite corrections — and pretending otherwise leads to eighteen disappointing months.
If your case is better served by fixed braces or by a referral to an orthodontist, we will say so at the consultation. The scan tells us fairly quickly which side of that line you fall.
They also only work if you wear them. Aligners need to be in for the great majority of the day — taken out for meals and cleaning, then put straight back. People who leave them out drift off plan and the treatment takes longer.
