The one that doesn’t
take anything away.
Composite resin is applied to the tooth, sculpted by hand, hardened with a curing light and polished. Little to no healthy enamel is removed, and you leave the same day with it finished.
The same material as our fillings, used cosmetically.
Tooth-coloured composite resin — the material we use for mercury-free fillings — applied directly to the tooth surface, shaped, cured and polished to a natural finish.
The result blends with the enamel around it and restores both how the tooth works and how it looks.
For patients across Wethersfield, Glastonbury, Newington and Hartford County who want a natural-looking correction without a multi-visit treatment, bonding is often the most practical and cost-effective answer.
What bonding fixes
- Chipped or cracked teeth — resin rebuilds the missing structure and is shaped to the tooth’s natural contour
- Gaps between teeth — closes minor diastemas without orthodontics
- Intrinsic stains — the discolouration that professional whitening will not shift
- Misshapen teeth — adds volume to teeth that are undersized, uneven or unusually pointed
- Exposed root surfaces — protects sensitive root dentin where gum recession has exposed it below the enamel line
- Small cavities — doubles as a tooth-coloured filling on visible surfaces
What actually happens.
Bonding or veneers?
Bonding
- Little to no enamel removed — and for purely cosmetic cases, no drilling at all
- One appointment, start to finish
- No impressions, no laboratory wait, no temporaries
- Costs less
- Best for one or two teeth, or a specific defect
More prone to staining over time than porcelain, and will need refreshing eventually.
Veneers
- 0.3–0.5mm of enamel removed — permanent
- Three visits, including a temporary stage
- Resists staining better and lasts longer
- Costs more
- Best where several front teeth need changing together
If bonding will do the job, we will say so — it is the more conservative option, and conserving enamel is worth something you cannot buy back.
Where the skill actually is.
Bonding is deceptively technique-sensitive. The resin has to be shade-matched, layered, sculpted with an understanding of natural tooth anatomy, and polished so it reflects light the way enamel does.
Shade and preparation
We select the composite colour that most closely matches your surrounding enamel, then lightly etch the surface with a mild conditioning solution so the resin bonds chemically to the tooth.
For purely cosmetic bonding, no drilling is needed.
Application and sculpting
The resin goes on in a putty-like state, so Dr. Kasabji or Dr. Engelhardt can shape it precisely. It is built up in layers, worked by hand with fine instruments, and adjusted until contour, length and surface texture match the teeth either side.
This is the stage that separates a repair you cannot see from one you can.
Curing and polish
A dental curing light hardens the resin. Then it is adjusted to your natural bite and polished to a smooth, stain-resistant finish.
Most patients leave with no post-procedure restrictions at all.
Invisible under direct examination.
Composite is selected to match not just the shade of your enamel but its translucency and surface texture too.
The target is not a repair that passes at arm’s length. It is one that holds up when someone is looking straight at it.
