Why it matters
What Is Invisalign and Why Do Patients Choose It?
Invisalign is a clear aligner system that straightens teeth using a series of custom-fabricated, removable plastic trays – each tray applying gentle, controlled pressure to move teeth incrementally toward their target position. At Family Dental Center of Connecticut, Dr. Kasabji and Dr. Engelhardt use Invisalign to treat a wide range of alignment concerns in adult and teen patients across Wethersfield and Hartford County – without the visibility of metal brackets, the dietary restrictions of fixed braces, or the discomfort of wire tightening appointments.
Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible when worn, fully removable for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, and replaced every one to two weeks as teeth progress through each planned movement stage. Most Invisalign treatment plans at our Wethersfield practice are completed in 12 to 18 months – though simpler cases can be completed in as few as 6 months and complex cases may require longer. Invisalign is clinically effective for treating the following alignment conditions:
Crowded teeth
insufficient space in the arch causes teeth to overlap; Invisalign creates space through controlled movement without extraction in most cases
Spaced teeth
gaps between teeth that affect smile symmetry and allow food to trap against the gums
Overbite
upper front teeth overlapping lower front teeth excessively; places stress on lower teeth and jaw joints
Underbite
lower teeth sitting in front of upper teeth; affects chewing function and facial profile
Crossbite
one or more upper teeth sitting inside the lower teeth; causes uneven wear and potential jaw discomfort
Open Bite
Upper and lower teeth not meeting when the mouth is closed; affects chewing and speech
Minor Relapse After Previous Orthodontic Treatment
teeth that have shifted after traditional braces are often ideal Invisalign candidates

What to Expect at Your Invisalign Appointments in Wethersfield
Invisalign treatment at Family Dental Center of Connecticut begins with a thorough clinical evaluation and digital smile design — and continues with a streamlined appointment schedule that fits the lifestyle of our busy adult and professional patients.
Invisalign Consultation and Digital Smile Scan
Your first appointment is a consultation and a digital scan — not an impression, not a mold. A precise 3D digital scan of your teeth is taken using an intraoral scanner and submitted to Invisalign’s ClinCheck software, which generates a complete digital simulation of your tooth movement from start to finish.
Digital X-rays to confirm root health and bone levels before treatment begins
Full intraoral scan in minutes – no putty, no gagging, no discomfort
ClinCheck treatment simulation reviewed at your next appointment – you see your predicted result before any aligner is fabricated
A full cost breakdown and insurance coordination provided before you commit to treatment
ClinCheck Review and Aligner Delivery
At your second appointment, Dr. Kasabji or Dr. Engelhardt reviews your complete ClinCheck treatment plan with you on the chairside monitor – showing the projected movement of every tooth across every stage of treatment. Once approved, your custom aligner series is fabricated and delivered.
Review of the full digital treatment simulation – every stage of tooth movement shown in sequence
Attachments placed if required – small tooth-colored composite dots bonded to specific teeth to facilitate precise movements
First set of aligners delivered with clear wearing instructions: 20 to 22 hours per day for maximum effectiveness
Your complete aligner series provided in advance so you can progress through sets on schedule
Progress Check Appointments (Every 6-8 Weeks)
Unlike traditional braces requiring monthly adjustment appointments, Invisalign requires check-ins every 6 to 8 weeks. These brief visits allow Dr. Kasabji or Dr. Engelhardt to confirm that your teeth are tracking correctly against the ClinCheck plan and make any necessary refinements.
Tooth movement verification against the digital treatment plan at each progress appointment
Intraoral camera imaging to confirm attachment integrity and gum health
Refinement aligners ordered if any tooth is not tracking as planned
Final retention options discussed as treatment nears completion

Why Family Dental Center
Invisalign Delivered With Full Clinical Precision
01.
ClinCheck Reviewed Together Before Any Aligner Is Made
You see the complete digital simulation of your tooth movement – start to finish – before any commitment is made and before any aligner is fabricated. If the planned result does not match your goals, adjustments are made at this stage. Patients make better decisions when they can see the outcome before the treatment begins.
02.
Composite Attachments Placed With Precision
Invisalign attachments – the small tooth-colored composite dots that allow the aligners to exert forces in specific directions – are placed with the same care as a cosmetic bonding restoration. Accurate attachment placement is directly tied to how accurately your teeth track the ClinCheck plan.
03.
Retention Planning Begins on Day One
The most common failure point in orthodontic treatment is post-treatment relapse caused by inadequate retention. We discuss retention options – fixed lingual retainers, clear Vivera retainers, or a combination – at the beginning of treatment so the plan is in place before the last aligner is worn.

Meet The Dentists Providing Your Invisalign Treatment
Together, Dr. Kasabji and Dr. Engelhardt have provided Invisalign treatment to adult and teen patients across Wethersfield, Glastonbury, Newington, Rocky Hill, and the wider Hartford County community – managing cases ranging from minor single-arch corrections to comprehensive full-mouth alignment plans.
Dr. Kasabji
Dr. Kasabji’s restorative background informs his Invisalign case planning – understanding how tooth movements interact with bite mechanics, existing restorations, and long-term gum health. He reviews every ClinCheck plan with the same precision he applies to crown and veneer cases – ensuring the planned movement sequence is both clinically sound and aesthetically optimized.
Dr. Engelhardt
Dr. Engelhardt’s focus on patient education makes Invisalign consultations at Family Dental Center of Connecticut genuinely collaborative. Patients leave the consultation understanding exactly how the aligners work, what the ClinCheck simulation predicts, what wearing compliance looks like in practice, and how long their specific treatment will take – before they commit to anything.

How many hours per day do I need to wear Invisalign aligners?
Invisalign aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day for maximum effectiveness. They are removed only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and oral hygiene. Wearing aligners for fewer than 20 hours per day slows treatment progress, may cause teeth to not track correctly against the ClinCheck plan, and can extend your total treatment time significantly.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Invisalign aligners apply controlled pressure to move teeth — and that pressure is perceptible, particularly during the first few days of each new aligner set. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or tightness, not pain. This typically resolves within 2 to 3 days of switching to a new aligner. Invisalign is generally more comfortable than traditional braces because there are no brackets or wires to irritate soft tissue.
Can I eat and drink with Invisalign?
Aligners must be removed before eating and before drinking anything other than plain water. Food and dark beverages consumed with aligners in place can stain the trays, trap bacteria against tooth surfaces, and warp the aligner material. Most patients find the discipline of removing aligners before meals becomes second nature within the first two weeks of treatment.
Is Invisalign covered by dental insurance?
Many PPO dental insurance plans that include an orthodontic benefit provide coverage for Invisalign treatment at the same level as traditional braces — typically covering a percentage of total treatment cost up to a lifetime orthodontic maximum. Insurance coverage for adult orthodontics varies significantly by plan. Our team verifies your specific orthodontic benefits and provides a complete cost breakdown before you commit to treatment.
What happens after Invisalign treatment is complete?
Retention is the most important phase of Invisalign treatment — and the most commonly neglected. Without a retainer worn consistently after treatment, teeth will gradually shift back toward their original positions. At Family Dental Center of Connecticut, we discuss retention options at the start of treatment and provide either a fixed lingual retainer, clear Vivera retainers (fabricated by Invisalign), or a combination of both to protect your result long-term.
