Why it matters
A Missing Tooth Is a Structural Problem That Gets Worse Without Treatment
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it no longer receives the stimulation it needs to maintain its density. Bone resorption begins within weeks and accelerates over the first year. Adjacent teeth migrate into the space. The opposing tooth supra-erupts. The bite shifts. What begins as one missing tooth becomes a cascade of structural changes that make every subsequent restorative option more difficult and more expensive.
Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that addresses bone preservation directly. A titanium post placed in the jawbone provides the same stimulation as a natural tooth root – stopping the bone loss that every other option allows to continue.

One
Missing tooth can shift the alignment of every adjacent and opposing tooth
Implants preserve the bone that alternatives allow to dissolve
Bridges and dentures replace the visible tooth – not the root. Without a root, jawbone in the area resorbs by up to 25% in the first year. Implants are the only solution that prevents this.
No modification to adjacent healthy teeth
A traditional bridge requires filing down the teeth on either side to serve as anchors. Implants are self-supporting- neighboring healthy teeth are left completely intact.
The closest clinical approximation to a natural tooth
Implants are composed of a titanium root, an abutment, and a porcelain crown. They function, feel, and are maintained exactly like natural teeth – brush, floss, and continue with routine preventive care.
IMPLANT & RESTORATIVE SERVICES
Dental Implant & Restorative Services at Our Wethersfield Practice
Every restorative case at Family Dental Center of Connecticut begins with a 3D cone beam CT scan to assess bone density, volume, and anatomy. Dr. Kasabji reviews candidacy, presents all options with accurate cost estimates, and performs implant restorations directly. Click any service for full procedure detail, timeline, and candidacy criteria.
Single Dental Implant
A single titanium implant post replaces the root of a missing tooth. A custom porcelain crown is attached above the gumline. The result is indistinguishable from a natural tooth in appearance, function, and maintenance. No adjacent teeth are altered. 3D cone beam imaging guides precise placement.
Implant-Supported Bridge
Two or more implant posts support a fixed bridge spanning the gap of multiple missing teeth. No adhesives, no removal – the bridge functions like permanent teeth. More stable than a traditional bridge and does not require grinding down adjacent teeth.
Full-Arch Implants (All-on-4 / All-on-6)
Four to six strategically placed implants support a complete fixed arch of teeth – upper, lower, or both. Designed for patients who are edentulous (no teeth remaining) or facing full-arch extraction. A fixed, non-removable alternative to conventional dentures that preserves jawbone and restores full function.
Dental Bridges (Fixed)
A fixed bridge spans a gap using adjacent teeth as anchors. Appropriate when implants are not indicated due to bone volume, systemic health factors, or patient preference. We present bridge and implant options side-by-side with accurate cost and long-term trade-off information – the choice is always yours.
Implant-Retained Dentures
Conventional full or partial dentures stabilized by two to four implant posts. Significantly more stable than adhesive-retained dentures – dentures snap onto the implants and can be removed for cleaning. A cost-effective option for patients who need full-arch replacement but want greater stability than traditional dentures.
Crowns, Fillings & Restorative Dentistry
Composite fillings for early-to-moderate decay. Porcelain or zirconia crowns – including CEREC same-day crowns – for fractured, heavily decayed, or root canal-treated teeth. Inlay and onlay restorations for partial coverage where a full crown is not yet required.
Why Family Dental Center
How Dental Implant Treatment Works at Our Wethersfield Practice
Dental implant placement is a multi-stage process. Understanding the sequence – and what happens at each stage – reduces uncertainty and allows you to plan your timeline accurately. Every case is guided by 3D cone beam imaging from the first consultation.
01.
Consultation and 3D Cone Beam CT Scan
Dr. Kasabji conducts a full clinical examination and captures a 3D cone beam CT scan of your jaw. This reveals bone density, bone volume, proximity to nerves and sinuses, and the exact position for implant placement. Without this imaging, implant placement is not precise – it is an estimate. We do not place implants without it.
02.
Treatment Planning and Written Estimate
Based on the 3D scan and clinical findings, Dr. Kasabji prepares a sequenced treatment plan – including whether a bone graft is required, the number and position of implant posts, and the final restoration design. You receive a written cost estimate with your insurance applied before any procedure is scheduled.
03.
Implant Post Placement
The titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. Nitrous oxide sedation is available. The post then undergoes osseointegration – the process of fusing with the surrounding bone – over a period of 3–6 months, depending on bone quality and the patient’s healing response.
04.
Abutment and Impression
Once osseointegration is confirmed clinically and radiographically, an abutment connector is placed on the post. Digital impressions are captured for the fabrication of your final porcelain crown. For single-tooth cases, this visit is brief.
05.
Final Crown Placement and Long-Term Monitoring
The custom porcelain crown is secured to the abutment. Dr. Kasabji confirms the bite, makes any necessary adjustments, and photographs the final result. Implant integrity is verified at every subsequent preventive visit – we track the implant long-term, not just through placement.

Dental Implant vs Bridge vs Denture - A Clinical Comparison
Choosing a tooth replacement option is a long-term clinical decision. Here is an honest, side-by-side comparison of the three primary options — based on clinical evidence, not which procedure carries the highest margin.
| Factor | Dental Implant | Fixed Bridge | Denture (Full or Partial) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bone preservation | Yes — implant stimulates bone like a natural root | No — bone under missing tooth continues to resorb | No — bone resorption continues; denture fit degrades over time |
| Adjacent teeth affected | None — implant is self-supporting | Yes — healthy adjacent teeth are filed down for anchors | Partial dentures may use clasps on adjacent teeth |
| Lifespan (with maintenance) | 15–25+ years; implant post is typically lifetime | 10–15 years before the bridge may need replacement | 5–10 years before relining or replacement is needed |
| Maintenance | Brush, floss, and routine preventive visits — same as natural teeth | Special floss threaders required under bridge; routine care otherwise | Daily removal, soaking, and adhesive (conventional); removable for implant-retained |
| Candidacy requirement | Adequate bone density; healthy gums; non-smoker preferred | Adjacent teeth must be present and healthy | No bone requirement; suitable for patients with significant bone loss |
| Average cost (CT) | $3,000–$5,500 per implant (all-inclusive) | $2,500–$5,000 for 3-unit bridge | $1,200–$3,500 (conventional); $3,000–$6,000 (implant-retained) |

Am I a candidate for dental implants if I have crowded teeth?
Yes, you are. However, you may need to wear an orthodontic solution to create space for the implant first. It is unwise to attempt to place an implant when there is not sufficient space. Placing a dental implant without the proper amount of space will only exacerbate the challenges you have. It is important to time the procedure correctly and properly place the implant in an area that we prepare to support the implant. Since the process requires oral surgery, it pays to do it right the first time.
Is there a cutoff age for dental implants?
No, but there are a few requirements for dental implants that people of various ages may not meet. While we treat older patients and we believe it is never too late to improve a smile, the patient needs to have sufficient bone density to support a dental implant. Patients who wear dentures for a long time before seeking dental implants may struggle with a jaw bone that cannot properly support the dental implant. In this case, a mini-dental implant may be more appropriate. With a mini-dental implant, the metal post is shorter, requiring less bone structure to secure the implant.
Do I qualify if I have crooked teeth?
Certainly. At Family Dental Center of Connecticut, we treat patients who have crooked teeth. In many cases, our patients will begin an orthodontic treatment and receive a dental implant when it is nearly complete. That way, space can be created for the implant if necessary. Simultaneously, when the procedures are combined, your smile will be greatly improved. In rare cases, existing teeth do not respond like they should to an orthodontics treatment like braces or aligners. In this situation, a professional may recommend having that one particular tooth removed and replaced with a dental implant. This is something we can discuss with you in our Wethersfield dental office.
Can I get implants if I have an over/under-bite?
Yes. The position of your bite does not necessarily impact whether or not you qualify for dental implants. However, we will typically recommend that you consider solutions to address this issue. By first aligning your jaw, you can correct both the appearance and functionality of your smile.
Are implants the right solution for missing teeth?
Absolutely. Dental implants were designed to replace missing teeth. Whether you have lost one or several teeth due to age, infection, decay, or damage, we can replace them with durable dental implants. Dental implants are the only solution that replaces both your missing root and tooth. We will secure a titanium post to your jawbone and, through the process of osseointegration, the jaw will provide the same level of stability to your replacement tooth that it did to your natural one. Patients appreciate how durable this solution is and how it allows them to maintain an active lifestyle while eating all their favorite foods. If you are simultaneously evaluating dentures or a dental bridge, consider how dental implants can positively impact your lifestyle and then call 860-430-4388 to schedule an appointment with Family Dental Center of Connecticut.
Can I get implants if I have gum disease?
For your health, no. It is much better to wait until you go through the necessary treatment to eliminate the gum disease. Healthy gums are critical for this procedure since we need to cut into the gums to place the metal implant. Any existing infection can decrease the success rate of the procedure and extend your recovery process. When you visit our Wethersfield dental office, we will let you know if we discover any signs of gum disease and present you with a treatment plan to address it.
Am I a candidate for dental implants if I have cavities?
Not yet, but you can be. In our dental office, we can treat your cavities by removing tooth decay and restoring your teeth. We can complete this procedure fairly quickly and decide if the teeth are healthy enough or if dental implants are necessary. At Family Dental Center of Connecticut, we also want to ensure your mouth is healthy prior to starting a procedure of this magnitude.
Am I a candidate for dental implants if my teeth fell out a long time ago?
At Family Dental Center of Connecticut, we treat patients in all stages of life and often work with seniors who receive dentures after tooth loss and now feel dissatisfaction with the results. While dentures are effective, they have a level of inconvenience. Patients need to take the dentures out to clean and soak them on a regular basis. In other situations, patients can struggle with the dentures slipping out on accident. Unfortunately, after losing an adult tooth, the body goes through the process of resorption. Through resorption, the body leaches calcium from the jawbone for use elsewhere. A patient who has lost teeth may not have a jawbone that is dense enough for the procedure. In this case, we may need to perform a bone graft or refer you to specialist for one. The other solution to consider would be mini-dental implants, where the actual post is shorter, requiring less bone density to remain in place.
Dental implants are by far the best solution for tooth loss. A dental implant can look so natural that other people may not be able to tell which tooth is the replacement. It is also durable enough to allow you to engage in high impact activities, like running a marathon or singing in the choir without worrying about your tooth becoming loose. With dental implants, you will also be able to eat all of your favorite foods. Patients are able to smile with confidence after getting dental implants.
